ALEX.

She let out an airy chuckle, amazed (even after six or so years of knowing her) by Petra’s skill for shrugging off a question and redirecting attention from herself. “Hmm, so… kissing. Kissing is okay, on the cheek, on someone’s hand, on their forehead, as long as both persons are okay with it. The same goes for kisses on the lips, but that one should only happen when you have special feelings for someone and they have those same feelings for you. So, do you have more questions?” Hazel eyes hopped from one adorable tiny face to another, studying their reaction. And, almost in unison, both chucked two new questions: “Is that why you and Mommy kissed on Christmas?”, “Do you have special feelings for Mommy?” Crap! Now, how was she supposed to explain that?  In the real world, there were so many variables involved in kissing… How did she factor all of those in without causing further confusion? She didn’t want them to be discouraged from expressing their feelings for someone through a kiss, but she also didn’t want them to think it meant nothing. “I— no. That’s different. So, there are some, some exceptions. You can kiss a friend if your friend’s okay with it…” She looked back at Petra seeking some kind of confirmation.

There’s softness in the way she looks at the other three as Alex continues to explain kisses in far better ways than she could’ve on her own — ( she’s always been amazing with the kids, and truth be told, her presence has made being a single mother so much easier for Petra and for that, she’s always grateful ). Something else she’s grateful for? — The twins’ last two questions were directed at her friend. Blue eyes widen slightly, and she almost cuts the night off by yelling bedtime! but her own curiosity holds her back, and she bites down on her lower lip and leans back against the couch once more, lets her gaze fall back on the other woman once again before giving her a soft smile. “And Mommy was definitely more than okay with it…” Brows knit as she trails off, thoughtful for a moment as the twins chime in more questions. “If she’s okay with it and you’re okay with it, how come I’ve never seen you kiss Mommy again?” “Do you kiss all your friends?” “When I’m eighteen can I kiss all my friends at school?” And she can’t help but laugh, shake her head in apology — “Girls, you get two more questions and then it’s time for bed, okay? Auntie Alex is going to need some rest too.”
