WILLIAM.

a silent nod is, at first, the only reaction he offers. a nod because, yes, he’s like the flash — the flash who, as a boy, lost his mother before his very eyes. perhaps the only hope he has for a less-than-screwed-up future lies in knowing the flash managed to do so. take his trauma and become a superhero. william isn’t sure he wants that — adrenaline doesn’t give him the rush it gives oliver; when shit starts to go down, his chest tightens and he doesn’t know how to handle himself anymore. he doesn’t understand why he has so much trauma to survive when all his friends worry about is twenty minutes of homework before they can play video games. “i used to see the flash on the news when mom & i lived in central city.”

the silence that keeps settling between them makes her feel slightly uneasy — mostly because she’s still trying to figure out how to best navigate through conversations with him. the last thing she wants is to say the wrong thing, unintentionally upset the boy. petra nods as she listens, “i heard he’s a pretty big deal over there, saves a lot of people.” and then she falls quiet again, gentle blue eyes never leaving william as she contemplates on whether or not it’s a good idea to talk about samantha, now that he’s mentioned her — wonders if he wants to but she decides against it — figures she’ll wait for him to do it on his own. “what else did you use to do back in central city?”
